I am a physician and I lead 6 employees with the assistance of a manager. I would like to reward my employees for goal setting and improving themselves. I found out that my manager promised my employees across the board raises on an annual basis. This is not something I approved. My employees now perceive that I “took their raises away” and are in revolt even though I proposed a quarterly bonus structure that would essentially make up for the loss of raise. What are some good ways to reward my employees? How do I manage the entitlement? I am just not sure what the answer is here? I want to create a culture that inspires forward movement rather than victimized thinking – and I find myself coaching on the model to my employees constantly – especially about managing drama. I just don’t know how best to meet their desire for increasing income and my desire to inspire their growth.
