Path to Life Coaching

Hello Brooke,

I am currently studying to receive my BSW at the University of Cincinnati. My original plan was to continue to get my masters and work as a LCSW. I have had a passion for working with people and their mental health for a long time now, and that is why I chose that route. However, after listening to your podcast since February and participating in SCS for the past two months, I know that counseling is not what I want to do. The differences between coaching and therapy that you have shown and I have noticed as a student, I know my place is in coaching. Your work has made an incredible impact on my life and my mental health, I cannot express how truly thankful I am. I am going to complete my BSW and then my plan is to get certified as a life coach, hopefully through your program. My question is: as a professional and MASTER COACH, do you think this will be the most beneficial for me, that is, receiving my degree and then getting certified? Or, another route? It seems that in today’s society, it is very important to have that piece of “paper”. I have two years left of my degree. Please let me know your thoughts on this. Thank you again for carrying out your calling. You have certainly enabled me to use the power between my ears, when I believed I was truly powerless.

Sincerely,
Katie Rice
