Allowing feelings, urges, cravings

I have a conceptual question.

Feelings, urges, cravings and sensations are created in our body, due to some kind of thought or image created in our brain. Often the thoughts and images are unintentional, sometimes programmed early on, etc. (Often these are feelings we don’t want to have)

Is the primary idea here that our job is to allow these sensations, but at the same time think the thoughts we want to think, rather than the unintentional thoughts causing the feelings we don’t want to have? We change the meaning of something and the feelings will change?
