Becoming Aware As The Watcher

In The Model section of scholars I have a question about the Becoming Aware section on p12. It says – “When you shine a light on the thought in your mind and step out of yourself, you can see that you are not what you do, what you think, or what you create as your result.”

I’m having a hard time understanding what is meant by this. Can you please break this down?

From the perspective of wanting to create massive change in your life, like losing weight or to stopping over drinking, you are in fact getting a certain result (net negative) based on your thoughts, actions and results. Similarly, what if you’re getting really positive and successful results in your life and you have really good habits? Aren’t you then producing and creating the results you want based on what you’ve been thinking about yourself and taking action to achieve those results? So aren’t you then what you do, what you think and what you create?

Thanks for your help!
