Building an Instagram following

Hello,

So I’m joining the Certificate program this month (really excited!). I’ve started my own separate Instagram account sharing the things I’m learning and thought this was a good idea because it’ll mean I have a bit of a following behind me on social media by the time I actually want to attract clients (in 6-12 months’ time).

But I’ve begun to get really obsessed with the Instagram account and how well it’s performing and see it as directly linked to how successful I’ll be as a coach. It doesn’t help that a friend of mine has started a similar type of account and has 4 x the number of followers as me.

I sometimes have the thought that I should just be learning to manage my own mind and do the work so that I can actually help others in the future, but I keep finding myself going back to this thought of ‘If I don’t get as many likes and followers as Katie or other people then it proves I’m not very good and won’t succeed’. I do think building a following is a good thing, I just wish it came from a better place.

UM:
C: I want to become a life coach
T: If I don’t get as many likes and followers as Katie or other people then it proves I’m not very good and won’t succeed
F: Anxious
A: I feel dread when it comes to posting, ruminate about how many followers I have, spend time obsessing. Don’t enjoy the process of building my Instagram following.
R: I’m motivated from a place of fear which makes me less likely to succeed

Please could someone offer some advice on ways to think / look at this that will be more productive?

Thanks so much!
