Can bad thoughts create good results? And can negative emotion create good results?

Can a negative thought create good results? As in, if we choose to think “I’ll try this but it won’t work” and we feel apathetic but yet keep taking action that might be proven to be true, do we or can we actually still get the desired result? Or even if it’s a more positive thought and it produces a more negative emotion but yet we still take the action we believe will work, is it possible then?
