I am a weight loss coach. Before taking on new clients, I ask them if they have ever been diagnosed with an eating disorder.
One of my potential clients said that she has in the past and I am having mind drama about this because I usually don’t take on anyone who has been medically diagnosed with an eating disorder. This is just because eating disorders are hugely complicated, and I feel that it is a medically diagnosable illness that should be seen to by a professional health care worker.
This being said, her eating disorder is not currently active. I haven’t really thought about people who have been recovered and would like to explore weight loss in a healthy way…
Are coaches allowed to work with people who have been diagnosed with an eating disorder but is no longer struggling with it/it’s no longer active? Is this something that is ‘allowed’?
