Coaching Couples

Hi Brooke,

I’m a Certified Financial Planner and Life Coach who has a private practice. I also do some consulting for a women-focused investment firm. Right now I offer traditional financial planning as well as one money coaching program. Recently, I have been asked if I coach couples around money. While I have worked with many married couples on their finances in a financial advising capacity, I wonder if/how this would work as a coach. I have never run any group coaching programs; but even if I have, I think this is different in that many of the issues that would come up would be around the other person and having a manual for him/her.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the most effective way to coach couples and how to structure it. My instinct is to coach them individually, and have them pay as if they are two separate clients. Do you think you could effectively teach the manual, for example, to a couple who was on a call with you together?

Thank you!
