Daily routine of thinking thoughts on purpose

I want to start thinking thoughts on purpose, How do I do this on a day to day basis? Do I set an alarm every so many minutes write down what thoughts I have right then (most likely negative thoughts these days) do a model on it and come up with a thought that serves me better and then go on with my day until the alarm goes off again in 30 minutes or 60 minutes? Or how can I do this? Could you think of or suggest another way? I’d like to implement a daily routine that not just helps me get out of the funk I am in right now but also serves me in the future when I am more advanced.
