Hi Brooke, I have a client who is s.l.o.w.l.y allowing herself to believe she can control her thoughts, which will control her emotions. She has lived her life with her heart leashed outside of her body, pulling HER instead of the other way around. She has experienced deep & suicidal depression, as well as grief. Though she understands the model, she challenges me on the fact that it “can work in any situation” and doesn’t believe she could have controlled her thoughts while in the throes of her depression.
I see her point – I know depression is chemical within the brain. Additionally, watching my mother ache & grieve after her husband’s surprise death helps me see how physical the reactions are…so, is this just NOT a time for someone to engage in thought work? I told my client I’d ask you & share your response. Thanks so much!
Jen
