Did I buffer or did I just move on to the next activity?

What is the right amount of time to breathe through a feeling (so I wonโ€™t buffer!) and then to go to do something else?

Sometimes, I feel like Iโ€™m not sure if Iโ€™m buffering, or if I just moved on to something else.
