Does the model lead us to resist feelings?

I’ve been reading some of Gay Hendricks work (and others) and the importance of getting out of your mind and experiencing feeling instead. I’m having trouble reconciling the importance of feelings with the model’s approach that thoughts create feelings. Don’t feelings sometimes come first? Can feelings change thoughts? Is changing the thought in order to change the feeling actually just resisting the feeling? How do I know the difference between resisting the feeling and experiencing the feeling?
