Dying to know your thoughts (LRS)

Now that the holidays are looming, I’m curious to know what you would do in the following situation:
You are a supervisor of several employees. One of them asks off around the holidays, but you need coverage and others have already asked off. So, the person was told ‘no can do.’ The person doesn’t show up anyway citing illness. Because of this decision, YOU have to go in and cover the shift.
This happened to me a few years ago and I didn’t say anything to the employee. I felt like a failure as a supervisor and taken advantage of badly. I realize this is probably about my own fear of confrontation but I didn’t know what to do at the time. I’m no longer a supervisor at all but was just curious to know WWBD? (What would Brooke do 🙂
