Feeling Better vs. 50/50

I would like some clarification about the 50/50 feeling experience.

I’ll admit that I joined Scholars with the goal to feel better on a regular basis, whether through examining my thoughts and replacing them with thoughts that don’t cause the negative feelings or some other way, I’m open to different ideas.

However, I keep hearing about 50/50 and how no matter what we do our feelings will continue to be 50/50, half positive and half negative.

So if my aim is to feel better on an ongoing basis, is there a way to do that? It seems like the two ideas are at cross purposes, i.e., I can feel better by examining my thoughts and changing them, but feelings really won’t change that much because of 50/50. Am I not understanding this correctly?
