Help with obsessive thoughts

Hello! I often get obsessive thoughts about things- and only after I check them do I feel release. I want to be able to control these urges (and not have them control me). Wondering how I can switch my thoughts to feel better and get control back without checking or focusing on it for hours.

Current Model example
C: Laying in bed at night
T: What if i didnt shut the water off, the whole house could flood
F: Nervous, anxious
A: Get up quickly to check sink
R: Relief

Often times after I check, I start to obsess over a new thing. For example, what if I emailed the wrong person yesterday (I better check), what if I didn’t unplug the toaster (I better check). How can I help myself find relief without being controlled by my nervous mind?
