How can all circumstances be neutral?

Hi there,

I’m a new scholar, though I’ve been using the model and listening to Brooke for a while.

I understand that circumstances are neutral and its our thoughts about them that make them positive or negative. What I’m struggling to understand is how certain experiences (circumstances) can ever be considered neutral; for instance the murder of a child or being raped?

Surely we would always think about these events negatively and even trying to view them as neutral feels wrong. These experiences feel as far away from neutral as is possible.

Thank you for your guidance on this.
