I was watching a live coach call last night and something that really stuck with me was that “other people cannot recharge your energy, it’s the thoughts you think that recharge your energy”. This, in turn, lead me to question the whole concept of introversion and extroversion.
I understand that the thoughts I think around other people exhaust me, I’m very on edge and aware of what’s going on around me. When I am all alone or around really close friends and family I am more comfortable and more able to relax. Could a person, in theory, become an extrovert just by changing their thoughts? Or are there deeper layers to introversion and extroversion that I am missing here? Perhaps my thought that extroversion is somehow more desirable and the “better option” is clouding my understanding. I find myself thinking that introverts think negatively and extroverts think positively about things, but that is, of course, not the case.
Now, I don’t really have a desire to become an extrovert and I’m very happy being the way I am. I am just very curious about this concept that other people cannot make you feel things without you having a thought about it first. And since we can choose our thoughts… we should also be able to choose if we are introverted or not.
