Is it true when we restrict calories our body holds onto fat?

Hello to my favorite coaches!
I’m working on believing that my body does not require as much energy as I’m used to giving it. Restriction love :). However the question comes up around what I hear over and over again – ‘the more we restrict our body from food, the more we hold onto fat.’ This seems to go against everything that Brooke teaches, but I am curious how to coach around this thought because it seems to be derived from a scientific fast. Does it comes from facts? Or is it something we are taught to no longer diet? Thank you as always for your amazing insight! I love being able to ask any question that pops into my brain!
