Making an important decision

Hi Brooke,

I am not sure if you will be able to help me with this, but I thought it is worth a shot! 🙂 I am having trouble making a decision regarding a treatment option. I am on the waiting list for a total hysterectomy. I have been very unwell with endometriosis. They have been giving me a treatment that gives you a “chemical menopause”, which mimics what a total hysterectomy would be like. This has provided me with huge relief from a very severe disease, therefore I have decided to have a hysterectomy. However, the doctors want me to take HRT as I am still a bit young to have a hysterectomy, and low levels of progesterone and oestrogen at my age can have a detrimental effect on my bones and heart. However I have not been tolerating the HRT. They say as I am so young having this surgery, I need some hormones added back into my system to protect me from long term health problems. When I take the HRT I get headaches, migraines, IBS and fatigue. Therefore I do not want to take them. I feel better off them. Nevertheless I want to be as healthy as I can be in my old age (obvs if i get there). I feel very anxious when I think about my long term health, knowing that I am not tolerating the HRT. Do I choose to feel unwell now or risk it for the future? i.e. take the HRT or not? There are no other options for me and there is not much information available or clinical trials completed in order to make an informed decision.

Any suggestions on how to make this decision any easier? Do you know anyone who has been through something similar?

Thanks xx
