Model Practice. Confirmation I’m Doing it Correctly.

Hello Brooke,
I’m committed to working my way through scholars for a year. I’ve listened to your podcast for a month and it was life-changing. You were recommended to me by my family physician. I realized that I was being passive-aggressive and playing the victim. That’s not what I want. I joined scholars to rewire my brain.

Will you assist in letting me know if I’m on the right track using the model?

What is bothering you?
Circumstance: My sister wants to reimburse me for mom’s North Carolina move. She’s already provided significant portions of the
moving costs.
Used my emergency fund towards my mother’s move.
Thought: I’m a loser.
I can’t contribute the way I want to for my mom’s well-being.
My sister and brother-in-law, bail me out, yet again.
Feeling: Guilt that I cannot provide more readily at this time.Fear of being judged as a mooch.
My sister will think there was an ulterior motive to my spreadsheet email.
Action: Don’t accept the money.
Result: Live paycheck to paycheck and not having an emergency fund.

Change your thinking.
Circumstance: My sister wants to reimburse me for mom’s North Carolina move. She’s already provided significant portions of the
moving costs.
Used my emergency fund towards my mother’s move.
Thought: I had a contribution with my mother’s move in that I was with her. I’m not a loser.
Feeling: Relief at not having to pretend everything is okay.
Action: Accept the reimbursement.
Result: Financial stability for the near future and emergency fund.

What I actually did – I wrote to my sister know that I was okay financially and didn’t take a hit from moving our mother. So while I did the model, and understood the feelings in the model, I didn’t actually do the action that I wanted to do. I did, however, offer insight as to why I did what I did. Fear of judgement.

Well, now, my little Peanut and I have some more work (and practice). Brooke, I’m looking forward to our journey together and committed to a feeling better.

Thanks for listening,
Yanna
