No-Win thoughts – how to move forward

In my twenty minute coaching session I uncovered that I have been having a reoccurring thought about my relationship with my partner that goes something like this “If I stay in this relationship I won’t be happy, but if I leave I won’t be happy either”. This thought leads to painful feelings such as fear, shame, feeling stuck, pressure… and many unhelpful and negative actions, thus of course proving my thought to be true. I understand the theory that I could choose to feel happy either way, and that my relationship with my partner is not responsible for my happiness, but those thoughts feel believable at the moment.

I’ve been trying to work with it and would be interested to hear your suggestions on how to proceed. Thanks!
