Non-violent communication

Hi Brooke!
A few years ago I was fascinated by Marshall Rosenberg’s book, Non-Violent Communication. I was glad I’d found a way to express myself clearly and kindly from my point of view. I particularly loved the script “when I saw / heard… I felt… because I need… Would you be willing to…?”
However, now I realise it sounds as if I’m relying on the other person to fulfill my needs… Or is it a respectful way to set one’s boundaries?
I’d love to hear your viewpoint on that!
Thanks,
Nan
