Not From What Our Body Actually Looks Like

I just read the great Answer to the Question entitled “Face & Body Image”. Part of that answer reads:

“How we feel about our body comes from our brains and the story we tell ourselves. Not from what our body actually looks like. How we feel comes from how we think and how we think comes from our brains. Not from our bodies.”

Wow!! Something is trying to click when I read “Not from what our body actually looks like.” I still think my brain gets caught up in believing that what I observe and conclude contributes to what I should think.

However, thoughts truly are optional. They are not dependent on our observations at all, right?!!

I’d love to hear anything you may have to add in order to help this concept totally click for me. Thank you.
