Primitive brain vs emotional childhood

What is the difference, if any, between the primitive brain and emotional childhood? I think they operate from the same place but they have slightly different approaches, in a way. I think of the primitive brain as maybe an over-protective parent from a bygone era, where as emotional childhood is the petulant toddler taking residence inside my brain who frequently declares “I don’t feel like it!” and is unfair or harsh about the actions and perceived intentions of others. What do you think?

Similarly – is there much difference between the prefrontal cortex and emotional adulthood? I kind of think of them as the same creature.
