Protocol for Buffering With Spending

I’ve noticed that overeating and overdrinking have protocols for what/when to eat/drink. What is the equivalent of a realistic spending protocol? I’m thinking that part of my Monday schedule is to plan out what I’m going to spend for the week. I already ‘budget’ my paychecks but from a very unrealistic point of view resulting in overspending and increased debt. If my realistic plan still results in some debt being created, is it still helpful to do it that way just to bring awareness and trust back to planning?
