Question about reason for changing my thought


So I just had a private coaching session. I’m working on my intentional thought. My reason for changing my thought was to make my husband feel loved. Then it occurred to me I can’t do that. That’s his model, not my model? So is it right that we can’t make people feel anything? We can put something into the world, and they will feel however they feel? I am working on being a better parent & wife. Where do I start?
