Resisting vs Replacing Thoughts Confusion

In one of the Advanced Weight Loss videos Brooke says that one day she decided that she would no longer entertain self loathing thoughts about her body/weight. Every time a thought like that came up, she said something like: “no way- no place here, not thinking that”. I am confused as to how that is different than avoiding/resisting a thought and/or using the equivalent of willpower to keep that thought at bay so it won’t have power over you, much like avoiding ice cream if that is a food that triggers your overeating. Can you help me understand how just refusing to think certain thoughts is different than avoiding those thoughts? Did she replace those thoughts with something else that she could really believe? Did she use laddering thoughts? Can you describe what a model might look like for the process Brooke used to eliminate those types of thoughts? Thank you!
