Searching for positives within a very negative experience.


I was sexually molested as a child by an uncle.

Is it helpful even though this was a very negative experience to try and find something positive to think about the experience? What kind of thoughts would be helpful and would serve me when I’m experiencing a traumatic memory from the past? Would it be helpful for me to scan my brain with a thought download looking for and listing any positives that came from that experience such as: “I protected my daughter from any potential sexual predators because of my heightened awareness.”

I have had a couple of therapists over the years but have found coaching myself to be the most helpful. My only concern is that maybe I should not try to change the negative energy that I have around such a negative experience?
