Sister’s Potential Divorce

My younger sister is married to a man from Ecuador. They have been together for 10 years. They usually spend half the year in Ecuador and half the year in the US, but because of COVID they have not visited Ecuador in 2 years. They have been living with my parents and working full-time at the same place – usually 60-70+ hours per week.

My sister just called me hysterically crying saying that her husband booked a flight to Ecuador for tomorrow (indefinitely) and might want a divorce. I am not sure if he just doesn’t like his living situation (living with his in-laws, working all the time) or if he actually wants to leave my sister.

She has not told my parents or anyone else because she is embarrassed (her words). I live about 2 hours away and plan to visit this weekend, but I feel sick to my stomach. My brain automatically goes to the thought – “she’s going to commit suicide” (even though she has never displayed suicidal behavior in the past, to my knowledge). I feel her pain so deeply right now and I don’t know what to do or how to support her. I offered to go out there today, but she is working and told me not to. I’m not sure if she is just saying that because she actually doesn’t want me to – or if I should go to just be around. Any help is appreciated, my brain is spinning!
