This Months Topic/ Your Past

So I’m reading through this months material, listening to the respective podcasts, and doing the workbook, and I totally understand and welcome a new way of looking at your / my past. This is great news I agree. But I’m a little stuck on an example of physical abuse & I’m hoping someone could walk me through it? Brooke teaches that someone who ‘abused you in the past cannot affect you now’, but what about a situation where a person now has a permanent physical disability as a result of this physical abuse? That disability affects them every day, correct? I understand their own thoughts about that disability that affects them, but if they can no longer walk or see etc. the action of the abuser does affect on them every day, and in the present, correct?
