Thought download

I understand that when I do a thought download I need to put everything down on paper. But is I just a recording of the thoughts I have or everything? I find myself having conversations with myself, recording what I think but also how I feel about the person, situation etc. I then move into telling myself what I should do/not do and creating tasks for myself etc. Is this ok or should I just stick to recording a thought without context or conversation. Thank you!
