One of my big goals is to be an artist, but I’m terrified of being terrible at it and unable to ever reach my goals. This belief manifests every morning when I walk into my studio for my scheduled painting time, spend all my allotted time reorganizing or reading, and leave without painting anything.
Here’s my thought model on this:
C – It’s time to paint.
T – It’ll turn out awful, so what’s the point?
F – Fear
A – Freeze up
R – I never paint anything and can’t realize my goal.
C – It’s time to paint.
T – Discomfort is part of the process.
F – Courageous
A – Paint
R – Create a body of work and improve in the process.
Am I doing this right?
