What do 25 fails in losing weight look like?

One of my goals for 2020 is to lose 50 lbs.
If the suggestion from the Weight Loss program is to choose a protocol and stick to it for 2 weeks ~ how then can we try for 25 fails in a quarter? Wouldn’t we need to wait for feedback to see if our protocol is working before making tweaks?

Would a better goal be to test out a protocol every 2 weeks and see how it goes?
Or am I missing other fail ideas?
