I legitimately started drinking wine, only 1 glass with dinner about 8 years ago, because I discovered that a dry wine, Chardonnay, or Merlot actually lowers my blood sugar and keeps my blood sugar from spiking too high with my dinner meals. I don’t have a thyroid and have a slight problem regulating my blood sugar if I eat carbs, such as potatoes, pasta, or sweets. This is where wine was my savior/remedy…it made me able to eat like a normal person…however, over the past few years my wine drinking has grown to 2-3 glasses per night. I’m 48 and it causing me to wake up in the middle of the night and sometimes I think it causes my heart to race at night when it wakes me up. I am about 10-15 lbs overweight. I know I want to stop or cut way back, that’s why I signed up for your Self Coaching Scholars, but I wonder if in my case, it would be better for me to, instead of quitting drinking wine completely; should I just reduce it back down to one glass of wine with dinner, and not let it get out of hand again? I am afraid of my blood sugar spiking too high if I don’t drink a glass of wine. BTW, my A1C blood sugar is good…but sometimes if I test my blood sugar after dinner without drinking wine it is around 200…if I drink wine with dinner it is more normal at 140…in both cases it goes down quickly within 2 hours to normal. Is drinking wine ever a healthy alternative?
