I have an elderly aunty who lives alone in the UK and does not have children.  She is 87 years old.  My brother and I spent a lot of time with her and her late husband when we were children during our holidays.  I sometimes telephone her from my home in Switzerland.  The last time I called her was over a month ago.

T:  I should call her more often because she has been so good to me in the past and she is very lonely

A:   Put calling her in my agenda and then put it off for week after week, I find excuses for not calling her (I am too busy, she is too negative about everything, she gossips about other people, she drains my energy).  When I do call her I make sure that I can only talk for a limited amount of time so I have an excuse for ending the call.
