I have a friend that only hangs out with me when she doesn’t have any other plans. She does host a lot of parties and events and doesn’t invite us, but we live next door to her and it’s hard to move on from. She has told me that friendships are all a game, and I see that she is reaching out to people and situations that she thinks she will benefit from. I see all of this and realize that we want different things, and I want genuine friendships. But why does this upset me when I’m not included? It’s so embarrassing to even think like this as an adult.
