Others’ Opinions

The following is from the Answer given in the recent Question entitled “Trouble with friends”:

“We also have no idea what she would think if she knew.  Maybe she’d think you’re weak.  Maybe she’d think you’re incredible.  Whatever she thinks would come from her own thoughts, and it would be a reflection of what she thinks about postpartum depression.  It would have nothing at all to do with you.”

Will you please help me to better understand the concept that others’ opinions have nothing at all to do with us? For instance, in the above, why would it be a reflection of what she thinks about postpartum depression but not be a reflection of the individual? How is there a difference?

Thank you in advance for helping me to better understand.
