Overeating vs overdrinking

Lately I find myself honoring either a food protocol or a drink protocol at dinner time but not both in the same day. My primitive brain is trying to negotiate one against the other – stick to food protocol today, then you can have two glasses of wine with dinner. Or no wine today? Then go ahead and have an extra serving of potatoes. I’m not snacking or trying to add in off-protocol food – just a little more. Is this negotiating because I’m not constraining myself to one goal at a time? What is recommended if my goal is to lose weight by stopping both overeating and overdrinking at dinner? I’m a little worried that if I do constrain myself to one, I’ll go off the rails with the other. But I’m also curiously watching this whole negotiation thing playing out. Hey primitive brain – I see you being very, very sneaky.
