Reaction after an argument with a parent or friend or boyfriend?

I never know what’s the best reaction after an argument with someone, especially when you’re living with them or on holidays with them.

For example, my mom just yelled at me after a nice day at the beach just because I didn’t put the toilet seat down.  Because I want to make it clear that this is not the best way to communicate with me (and verbalising clearly that there is no point in yelling at someone for such a little thing), I get distant and hardly talk for the rest of the day.

I can do a model on my feelings after this situation, but my point is that I’m not sure if getting distant is an appropriate reaction. What would be an appropriate/more mature reaction?

I’m sure that a model would help so here it is:

C: Mother reproaching me not to put the toilet seat down
T: I don’t like her yelling at me, there are better ways to talk to someone to say that you are not happy with something they did.  Such a pecadillo! It’s like she wanted to kill me. We spent such a nice day together and she is spoiling it.  She’s getting on my nerves.  In the future, I don’t want her to believe she can pass her frustrations on me, so I’m not going to talk to her for the rest of the day.
F: Angry, disrespected
A: Focusing on my phone, watching a movie in order to not interact. Barely answering any questions.
R: Not a good atmosphere in there.
