Trying to get the circumstance really neutral

I am working on a situation from the past. I am trying to make sure that the circumstance is as neutral as possible and would be grateful for some feedback about the following:
C: I was working at a nonprofit legal services organization. I was asked to write a grant proposal to provide additional funds for the project I had created and was running. I wrote the grant. We received notice that we got the grant. My supervisors decided to spend half the money on a different project than my project.
In response to the last sentence, I always think that what they did was unethical and wrong, and that they betrayed me. I think the problem is with what I am making that sentence mean. But is the problem that the C isn’t neutral?
Thank you so much!
