weight loss protocol

Hi! I have a question about the food protocol: Are we supposed to stick to a “basic framework” of a meal plan (such as: Lunch: 1,5 Protein; 1 Grain; 1 Fat, 1 Fruit; Dinner: 1,5 Protein, 1 Fat, 10 oz Vegetables, …- based on the amounts given in the weight loss workbook) and just plan each day what exact protein, fat, grain,… in which exact amounts we want to eat? Or can we decide each day freely which amounts of NSNF food we want to eat the next day without consideration of the suggested amounts in the weight loss workbook? Thanks in advance!
