Am I finally understanding this correctly?

Is desire for sugar or alcohol actually two-fold?
1) Our brain will naturally and expectedly want to be reward with more of any concentrated substance that raises dopamine.
2) Our thoughts around the desire is also creating the desire.

So, answering a desire is actually two-fold as well?
1) Stop rewarding the brain with the concentrated substance. Over time the brain will stop asking.
2) Become aware of, and change, the thoughts that are causing the desire.
