Thought downloads… a confusion remains

I have done “stream of consciousness” thought downloads for some months now, but something Brooke said in a video I watched recently has me wondering if there’s a better approach. She said something to the effect of identifying the thoughts that cause our feelings. This made me wonder if I’m better off identifying what my prevailing feelings are and then search for the thoughts causing them. They may be captured in the ‘stream of consciousness’ approach, but that approach produces for me a lot of random thoughts and given I just do it for 10 minutes a day, that type of download doesn’t seem to always contain some of the thoughts likely causing the most important/prevalent feelings I’m noticing.
